Udhara de Silva is an alternative urban singer, songwriter, music producer, photographer and graphic designer. He is the result of a very eclectic, multicultural upbringing, born in Sydney, raised in Saudi Arabia to Sri Lankan parents. Though he indulges himself in different branches of creativity, to him each branch invokes a strong passion, commitment and dedication to express.
Udhara started playing piano at the age of 4, excruciatingly shy but more than happy to perform during yearly piano recitals. His musical flair was first evident when he was merely a toddler, listening to the Sri Lankan music at cultural events his family would go to, memorising and playing by ear on his toy piano. It wasn't however until he was 10 that he dabbled in writing and producing. Though he didn't realise what he was doing at the time, he used a four track and a couple of mics and keyboard, using his younger sister, Thejani (6 at the time) as vocalist to record his first songs.
Music is Udhara's beloved, passionate and seductive spouse, but for better or worse he is in eternal extra-marital affairs with Photography, Graphic Design and Digital Media.
Since his childhood, Udhara has constantly indulged in new technology, experimenting and always learning which resulted in him graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Digital Media from the College of Fine Arts, UNSW, Sydney in 2010. He would direct photoshoots and music videos as a 12 year old for his sister to accompany the music they created together, and he would also design cover art and marketing material for their imaginary fans. All this would be applied to real life as in 2005 Udhara and Thejani collaborated on "Global Citizen" an album released under M Entertainment in aid of Senior Citizens. Udhara produced and wrote the album, also designing all promotional work and managing the project, whilst Thejani performed, gave interviews to the press and on TV. It was quite an exciting project that was treasured for the experience and memories rather than commercial acclaim.
Udhara's influences in photography and art include legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz, Vogue's creative director Grace Coddington, the ingenious Karl Lagerfeld, and Steve Jobs. He is based in London.
